Born on January 22, 1937, in Kobita Village, Samuel entered a world of tradition and transition. Over nearly nine decades, he walked this earth with unwavering purpose, becoming a cornerstone of the Kabuoch community and a beacon of wisdom to all who knew him.
2. Birth and Family Background
Mzee Samuel was the beloved son of the late Antonius and the late Rusalina Ojuok (Nyamong'o), and a stepson to the late Kilmentina Owino. As the second-born child, he occupied a central place among his siblings: Priscah Odhiambo, Magdalina Akeyo, Joseph Nyasiko, and his departed siblings Angelina, Mathew, John, and Philip. He was also a respected stepbrother to the late Grado, Ariyo, Odhiambo, Jalang'o, and Nuga Ombuya. His early years in Kobita Village forged his deep respect for kinship and community.
3. Education and Professional Journey
Mzee’s educational journey began at Ogango Primary School in 1947 and later continued at Obera School. In 1957, his ambition led him to Mombasa, where he served as a clerk for Kenya Railways for five years.
Upon returning home, Samuel’s life became a testament to his industrious spirit and versatility. He was a man of development who believed that everyone should work to earn their coin. His entrepreneurial path saw him open a carpentry workshop in Rongo, as well as retail shops at Lwala Centre, Sikwadhi, and Opapo Town. Between 1995 and 2007, he became a prominent figure in the cattle business, while also balancing both large-scale and small-scale farming. Even in his later years, he remained active, operating his posho mill at the Lwanda Chief’s Camp until his demise.
4. Family Life and Patriarchal Legacy
Samuel’s greatest pride was the vast and vibrant family he nurtured across three households. He was a champion of education, ensuring that his children and grandchildren had the tools to succeed in a changing world.
